Smith Systems was a privately-owned designer and manufacturer of K-12 school furniture located in Dallas, Texas. Smith designs furniture that improves the classroom experience and supports current curriculum trends. Smith’s operating model offers shorter delivery times to accept orders long past competitors’ delivery deadlines. Smith also developed a highly effective digital marketing strategy that propelled it to become the US leader in educational furniture.
Although Smith was a very attractive platform opportunity for private investment firms, Steelcase (NYSE: SCS) prevailed in a competitive process, exceeding expectations.
